I’m a PhD candidate in Politics at the University of California, Santa Cruz . My research explores the subnational variation of healthcare outcomes in Latin America, particularly in Brazil. I am specifically interested in the interplay between belief in misinformation, institutional trust, political ideology, and state capacity to provide social policies at the local level. I explore these themes using a mixed-methods strategy with interviews, experimental survey designs, and quantitative analysis. My work has also been awarded by the International Studies Association.
My research has been supported by the American Political Science Association / National Science Foundation (Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant), the UCSC Center for Economic Justice and Action, the Dolores Huerta Research Center for the Americas, the UCSC Social Sciences Division, and the Brazilian Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).
I was born and raised in Brazil. Before starting my Ph.D., I worked as a Research Fellow at the Center for Health Diplomacy and Bioethics at Fiocruz Brasília and as Assistant Editor at the Revista Brasileira de Política Internacional. I am currently a Non-Resident Fellow in Global Health Politics at Boston University. I hold an M.A. in International Relations from the Universidade de Brasília and a B.A. in International Relations from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina.
Outside of research, I enjoy swimming, playing badminton and volleyball, and practicing meditation.
